WANTED: Police search for suspect after man shot dead inside his home in Beaumont

Detectives are asking anyone who lives in the neighborhood with surveillance cameras to check footage between the hours of 11:00 p.m Friday to 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police are still investigating after a man was found dead from a gunshot wound in the South End. 

Officers received a call about shots fired in the 600 block of Elgie Street at 11:49 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, Officer Haley Morrow said in a news release. They found Billy Joe Hays, 57, dead inside the home. 

Witnesses at the scene told police a suspect went into the resident, shot the victim and fled west on Elgie in an silver, older model SUV. 

The investigation is ongoing, Morrow said. 

Detectives are asking anyone who lives in that neighborhood with surveillance cameras to check their footage between the hours of 11:00 p.m Friday night to 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning for anything that could help Beaumont Police in this investigation.
