Beaumont Police arrest suspect in fatal Tuesday evening shooting on Magnolia St

Malcolm Jamall Haymond was arrested Thursday evening by BPD.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police have arrested a 35-year-old Beaumont man in connection with a fatal shooting in Beaumont's north end.

Malcolm Jamall Haymond was arrested Thursday evening by BPD.

A murder warrant was previously issued early Wednesday morning for Haymond. His bond was set at $900,00 by Jefferson County Precinct One Justice of the Peace Ben Collins, Sr, according to police.

Haymond is accused of fatally shooting Nicholas Hughes Tuesday evening behind Ace's convenience store at Magnolia St. and Isla Ave., according to police.

Police say that Haymond should be considered to be armed and dangerous and ask that anyone with information on his whereabouts contact Crime Stoppers or call police at 409-832-1234.

The call originally came in as a victim of a shooting. BPD responded around 7:06 p.m. behind Ace's convenience store on Magnolia St. Isla, according to BPD PIO Carol Riley.

Two other deaths earlier Tuesday evening kept police in Beaumont very busy.

About an hour before the fatal shooting on Magnolia St., officers were sent to a home in the 1800 block of Broadway St. after a body was found there

The death on Broadway may have been an overdose according to police who are awaiting autopsy results to confirm the cause of death.

Police often begin a death investigation as a homicide until the investigation or an autopsy confirms otherwise. A homicide is not always a murder and is defined as a death caused by another person which can include deaths that may later be ruled as manslaughter or an alternate defense such as self-defense.

Detectives are also investigating the death of a 17-year-old Beaumont man found fatally shot inside a car in the south end of the city.
