On Tuesday evening a 17-year-old Beaumont high school student was found fatally shot on the city's south side.
Police were sent to the 4100 block of Chaison Ave. at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night after a caller reported shots being fired.
When officers arrived they found Ta'dran Carmon, 17, of Beaumont, who had been mortally wounded, inside a car according to Jefferson County Precinct One Justice of the Peace Ben Collins, Sr.
Carmon's death was the third death of the evening that police are investigating.
He was a senior at Beaumont United High School according to a district spokesperson.
The district is making counselors available to students on the campus as well as at West Brook and the Early College High School according to the spokesperson.
(EDITOR'S NOTE: A previous version of this story incorrectly spelled Carmon's name, reflecting an original police report. 12News regrets the error.)
Police were sent to a home in the 1800 block of Broadway just before 6 p.m. after a body was found there. About an hour later they were sent to the intersection of Magnolia St. and Isla Ave. to investigate a fatal shooting.
The death on Broadway may have been an overdose according to police who are awaiting autopsy results to confirm the cause of death.
Police often begin a death investigation as a homicide until the investigation or an autopsy confirms otherwise. A homicide is not always a murder and is defined as a death caused by another person which can include deaths that may later be ruled as manslaughter or an alternate defense such as self-defense.
