Hurricane Francine brings back memories for Louisiana residents

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff tells 12News his office started preparing for impacts on Sunday but are now preparing to send crews towards New Iberia.

LAKE CHARLES, La. — For people in Lake Charles, Hurricane Francine brought back painful memories of Hurricane Laura.

Storm PTSD is a real thing. That's why the sheriff in Lake Charles says his crews started preparing even earlier this time around.

In Lake Charles the wind has picked up and there is a slight rise in water level across from the event center. Storm surge isn't a big concern and the impacts are fairly limited.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff tells 12News his office started preparing for impacts on Sunday but are now preparing to send crews towards New Iberia.

12News spoke with many families who say they're used to storms like this. 3rd grader Dasireya Colton, was out with her family enjoying the cool breeze.

"I was at my grandma's house and I was eating and we were getting ready to go to the park, and it's a beautiful day today. So we're walking out here, feeding the ducks," Colton said.

Evacuation notices in Cameron and Calcasieu Parishes have been lifted and schools in both parishes will be back to class tomorrow.
