BEAUMONT, Texas — Southeast Texas drivers looking to get on southbound U.S. Highway 69 just before Delaware will need to use a different route starting next week.
The onramp to U.S. Highway 69 south just before Delaware will be closing on Monday, July 1, 2024, throughout the "IH-10/US 69 Eastex Interchange Project," according to a news release from the Texas Department of Transportation's Beaumont District.
The onramp will be closed for the duration of the interchange project which is projected to be finished in the fall of 2029, according to TxDOT.
On July 8, 2024, TxDOT contractors will spend the next month clearing vegetation along Interstate 10 from the Hollywood Overpass to 7th St in preparation for construction.
Construction on the "Eastex Interchange Project" is set to begin in the fall of 2024, according to TxDOT.
Recently, Williams Brothers Construction Company Inc. was awarded a $533.2 million contract to complete the project.
The project includes widening Interstate 10 from four to six main lanes from the Hollywood Overpass east to 7th St.
The interchange connecting Interstate 10 and U.S. highway 69 will also be rebuilt.
Frontage roads, retaining walls and sound walls are included along with 15 bridges, including an Interstate 10 overpass to replace the Maury Meyers Bridge and go over Liberty and Laurel Streets.
The "IH-10/US 69 Eastex Interchange Project" is a part of the TxDOT Beaumont District's "10/69 Interchange Projects" which includes the "Cardinal Drive Interchange Project."
That project includes widening Interstate 10 from four to six lanes and reconstructing the interchange from Walden Road east to the Hollywood Overpass.
It will also include construction of frontage roads and retaining walls.
