Train hits 18-wheeler carrying lumber, scatters wood across roadway in Orange

The accident happened when the tractor-trailer carrying the lumber was stuck in traffic at a red light on 16th Street near a railroad crossing.

ORANGE, Texas — A train hit an 18-wheeler carrying a load of lumber early Monday morning in Orange.

The accident happened at 4:39 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14 when the tractor-trailer carrying the lumber was stuck in traffic at a red light on 16th Street near a railroad crossing, Capt. Robert Enmon said.

The tractor-trailer tried to move when the driver saw a train was coming, but was unable to get out of the way due to the stopped traffic in front of the light, Orange Police said.

The train hit the tractor trailer and scattered the lumber onto the service road.

No hazardous chemicals were involved and no one was injured, police said. Crews are working to repair the railroad crossing and traffic is expected to be reduced to one lane westbound at South Lutcher Drive and the south I-10 service road between Bob Hall Street and 16th Street until debris can be cleared.
