Two injured in early morning rollover accident on I-10 in Orange

The driver fell asleep and hit a concrete barrier, troopers said.

ORANGE, Texas — A single-car rollover accident sent a man and a woman to the hospital Monday morning. 

The crash happened near the Texas-Louisiana state line about 2:15 a.m.  Monday, Oct. 14, Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a news release. Texas DPS troopers responded to the crash. 

A 2003 Ford Mustang was going westbound on I-10 when the driver fell asleep and hit a concrete barrier, troopers said. After hitting the wall, the car rolled several times. 

The driver, Scott Willis, 38, of Dickinson, was flown to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries. The passenger, Jessica Schurtz, 31, of Palacias was taken to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth hospital in an ambulance, but her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. 

Texas DPS is still investigating this accident.
