Intersection of Gladys, West Lucas fully reopened after being partially closed more than 2 months

The intersection has been partially closed since mid-December 2023.

BEAUMONT, Texas — If you've been driving the gauntlet that has been Gladys Ave and West Lucas Dr. in Beaumont lately or just plain been avoiding the partially closed intersection since December then this may just make your day.

The intersection has completely reopened and traffic is now flowing in all lanes along both streets.

Crews finished up Friday afternoon and by 1:30 p.m. traffic was moving through all lanes of West Lucas and about 20 minutes later crews removed the barricades blocking Gladys to the west.

Gladys street has been closed and West Lucas squeezed into two lanes since mid-December 2023 while crews replaced an eroded storm drain.

Once the storm drain was replaced and new concrete poured, crews began digging up a another portion of the street on the west side of the intersection in the southbound lane of West Lucas.

To some regular drivers this could have seemed dismaying after watching crews fill in the larger hole but the city took the opportunity while the work was being done to replace a water line tie-in.

That portion of the project was started on Feb. 28, 2024 and finished this week.

The entire project had been anticipated to be finished in early April 2024.
