BEAUMONT, Texas — Drivers can expect emergency construction to continue on the intersection of Gladys Avenue and Lucas Street in Beaumont as repairs are still underway.
The intersection has been closed since mid-December 2023 because of an eroded storm drain.
The contractor who is working on the repairs poured a new road surface in the Southwest quadrant last week. The old roadway was not fully torn out, and the remaining portion was removed Tuesday.
To avoid tearing up the street, the water line tie-in for Gladys Ave is being replaced at the same time. Crews are starting on this portion Wednesday, February 28, 2024.
Dump trucks are using the newly poured section to travel on to remove the broken concrete. The contractor is not removing any newly poured concrete.
The project is anticipated to be wrapped up in early April 2024.
