AUSTIN, Texas — In an Instagram post that has since been removed, Orange native and NFL player Earl Thomas asked for prayer for his family after a reported "altercation" with his wife.
"So my agent just hit me and said that I'm gonna be on TMZ from an altercation that happened with me and Nina," Thomas said in the video posted to his Instagram account.
TMZ Sports details what they call a "violent" altercation involving Thomas, his wife Nina and several other people in Austin.
TMZ Sports cites court documents saying that Austin Police responded to a home at 3:41 a.m. on April 13. When cops arrived, they "observed that a black female wearing an orange sweater with a knife in her hand, later identified as Nina Thomas, was chasing a shirtless black male, later identified as Earl Thomas, with a pistol in his hand around a vehicle."
According to Nina's account to police reported by TMZ Sports, she was angry after catching Earl cheating on her. She reportedly told police that she used Earl's own pistol to simply "scare him".
In the police report obtained by TMZ Sports, Nina told police "that she took out the magazine thinking that the gun could not fire." But, police say Nina was "unaware that the gun had a round in the chamber."
Thomas said he's angry that the incident became public, "but it's the world we live in today," he acknowledged.
Thomas went on to say the altercation is a personal matter.
"Instead of talking about us, just keep us in y'all's prayers," he said in the video.
He said he is now speaking to wife, Nina. The two got married in 2016 and have three children.
"Just pray for us, you know, as we go through this stuff," Thomas said. "We're back talking, I'm seeing my kids. So just keep us in your prayers."
Thomas, 30, currently plays safety for the Baltimore Ravens. He played at WOS and went on to play college football at Texas.
Thomas is a 7-time Pro Bowler who won Super Bowl XLVIII as a member of the Seattle Seahawks.
