Bicyclist struck, killed by hit and run driver in Port Arthur early Thursday

Police found the pickup truck they say was involved around 2 p.m. Thursday. No arrests have been made yet.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Police in Port Arthur are investigating after a man on a bicycle was killed in an early morning hit and run wreck.

Officers were sent to the 3000 block of Savannah Avenue at about 3:15 a.m. after it was reported that a person was hit by vehicle according to a Port Arthur Police Department news release.

When the officers arrived they found Jamica Thibo, a 40-year-old Port Arthur man, had been struck and killed while riding a bicycle according to the release.

Police released surveillance video of what they say is the white pickup truck that struck the bicyclist and left the scene.

Police did find the truck at the Timber Creek Apartments around 2 Thursday afternoon. The front bumper did appear to be damaged according to the 12News crew on scene. 

The department’s “Advanced Accident Investigation Team” investigated the wreck with assistance from the criminal investigations division of the department.

On 10/1019 at approximately 3:14 AM Officers of the Port Arthur Police Dept. were dispatched to the 3000 block of Savannah Ave. (Spur 215) in reference to an auto pedestrian accident. 

Upon arrival officers found that a 40 year old male pedal cyclist was struck, and killed and the suspect that struck him had left the scene.

Members of the Advanced Accident Investigation Team were on duty at the time, and investigated the crash. 

Members of Port Arthur Police Dept. 

CID were also notified to assist in the investigation. This incident is currently under investigation by PAPD CID, and the AAIT.
