Thurman Bartie defeats incumbent Derrick Freeman for Port Arthur mayor

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — The race for Port Arthur mayor has come to an end on Saturday, June 22nd.

Thurman Bartie defeats incumbent Derrick Freeman for mayor.

Bartie had 1,411 votes after early voting.

Mayor Freeman had 1,199.

Once the results were finalized, Bartie won with 1,883 votes. While Mayor Freeman had 1,592.

The runoff election was due to neither candidate getting more than 50% of the vote in the May election.

Mayor Freeman has spent the past three years as Port Arthur's mayor.

Bartie has previously served as Jefferson County Precinct 8, Justice of the Peace.
