BEAUMONT, Texas — 12News has learned that investigators with the Texas Rangers have submitted their investigation into two Beaumont Police officer-involved shootings.

The investigations were submitted to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office.

The first is the investigation into the fatal shooting of Manuel Arteaga. On August 24, Beaumont police responded to an assault call on the 1800 block of Harriot Street.

Family members told 12News they were gathering in the backyard that night to cut logs. They soon called 911 to remove someone from the home.

"They were handling the individual involved in the disturbance," said Beaumont Police Department officer Haley Morrow. "And while they were doing that, another individual approached them from behind the residence with a chainsaw."

Arteaga was shot after police say he was advancing toward them with the chainsaw still on.

A second investigation into an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of Victoria Meza has been delivered to the district attorney and is currently under review.

Meza, 43, of Beaumont, died at her south Beaumont home August 27 after exchanging gunfire with Beaumont Police officers serving a search and arrest warrant.

Beaumont Police narcotics investigators were being assisted by a SWAT team when they served the search and arrest warrant at about 9:45 a.m., according to police.

Meza, who was the target of the warrant, fired multiple shots at officers as they served the warrant, according to a news release from Beaumont Police.

In response officers fired their weapons at Meza, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Beaumont EMS medics, according to the release.
