Neighbors on Harriot Street in Beaumont says they would always stop and exchange pleasantries when they saw 42-year-old Manuel Arteaga and his nephews out and about.

"Well we've always had a friendly relationship, and I speak with the young boy all the time," said Patillo.

Arteaga owned his own landscaping company and worked to beautify the entire neighborhood.

"They actually take care of my yard. So we have a good relationship," said Patillo.

Now flowers and a cross make up a small memorial in Arteaga's yard.

On scene Saturday night, Beaumont Police told 12News the investigation into the events leading up to Arteaga's death will take time.

"The Beaumont Police Department of course is committed to a transparent and thorough investigation. Which is going to take some time. But that's all the information we have right now," said Haley Morrow.

Arteaga's nephew Christin says the father of four will be missed by many.

"He leaves behind four children. They loved him because he used to help everybody right here," said Christin Arteaga.

Friends are now going door to door asking for donations to help burry Arteaga.

"And if anyone can reach out and please help with the family with putting away their loved ones would be very appreciative," said Patillo.

Friends of the family tell 12News they are still working to create an online way to take donations.
