BEAUMONT, Texas — It has been eight days since Glen Oaks Apartment complex has been without hot water.
On Monday, January 22, 12News reported that management of the complex had offered daily email updates of the situation but residents say they have failed to address ongoing issues.
"It's really been kind of awful. Not having hot water. I had to boil six pots on the stove to take a bath," said Terry Finister, a resident.
Finister says she wants what she pays for.
"I just think it's horrible how they're treating us. We pay our rent, and they do us like this. Give us a discount! Something," she said.
The trouble started January 18, when CenterPoint Energy shut off the gas because of unsafe conditions. On January 20 city inspectors went to the complex to review repairs to the gas line and the repairs didn't pass inspection.
"A gauge that was put on did not hold at that time. So there was another leak somewhere or something wasn't quite right. We had to get the Houston based company back out there and do another test to try and locate the gas leak," said Beaumont Building Official Boyd Meier.
The same plumbing company made a second attempt at repairs but again they failed inspection, according to Meier.
"They needed to have a test on the entire system, so when the plumbing company went back and put up another test they found something leaking underground," Meier said.
12News crew saw plumbers on Thursday, January 25 at the complex. When 12News tried reaching out to the management, they did not answer.
Meier hopes to get this situation fixed soon.
"As soon as it holds pressure and we get it pumped up I'm feeling fairly positive that it could happen tomorrow or possibly the weekend," he said.
But until repairs are completed and pass inspection residents are forced to continue waiting and hoping.
"People with kids they're trying to bathe the kids and get them ready for school they can't because it's cold. We just want it to change. This amount of rent that we pay, we shouldn't have to go through this. I just hope it changes fast," said Quint Charles, another resident.
The apartment complex has sent a letter to residents offering to move them across the street to another complex they also own.
