News release from Beaumont’s Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD…

With great sadness I have accepted Msgr. Kelly Catholic High School Principal Roger Bemis’ request for retirement. It is effective June 30, 2020. For 23 years Mr. Bemis has dedicated his life to the leadership of Kelly High School. He has helped provide a vision for our future with a long-range plan to guide growth.
During all that time Mr. Bemis has been dedicated to academic excellence. Thousands of students have benefited from his leadership, going on to find successful careers. His efforts have resulted in academic excellence with a graduation rate of 100% and a 97% college attendance rate.

He has consistently hired qualified staff and partnered with Lamar University to offer Dual Credit Courses. He promoted the expansion of the Advanced Placement Program and the training of AP teachers. He built the fine arts department to include a viable band program, a competitive dance program and a comprehensive visual arts program.

He has fostered the addition of softball and baseball facilities for boys and girls. He has opened two fine arts facilities and renovated the field house.

He has helped the school weather hurricanes and two recent floods, Harvey and Imelda. He guided the school through the repairs and renovations.

I am most grateful that Roger has always made Catholic identity the essential part of his leadership. He has been a devoted spiritual leader for students and staff. He will be greatly missed. I pray that Our Lord and Savior will continue to bless him and his family and that he knows our prayers will follow him.

Marcia Stevens, Superintendent of Schools, said a search committee will be established to find a principal to build on past successes and meet new challenges.
