Identity of teen killed in Central Gardens robbery released

He was a student at West Orange-Stark High School.

CENTRAL GARDENS, Texas — Officials have released the name of the teen suspect who was killed in a botched Central Gardens robbery in October.

A spokesperson with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says 17-year-old Gene Farris was shot in the 1500 block of Lamar Avenue.

After it happened, the father of a Central Gardens resident told 12News his son was talking to people through social media about buying a motorcycle.

He said the potential sellers showed up in masks and tried to rob him.

Deputies say the resident, who was also armed, exchanged gunfire with the suspects and hit one man, killing him.

The other suspect survived.

Investigators say charges are pending against the suspect.

Farris was a student at West Orange-Stark High School.
