Manuel Arteaga, 42, was fatally shot by officers on August 24.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A grand jury has no-billed an officer who fatally shot a Beaumont man who they say approached them with a chainsaw.

Cory Kneeland, the Grand Jury Attorney and Chief of Intake Section told 12News that "The Grand Jury after full review ruled it to be a justified shooting and no further action needed to be taken."

Manuel Arteaga, 42, was fatally shot by officers on August 24.

The shooting happened on a Saturday night after officers were sent to a disturbance call at a home in the 1800 block of Harriot St. at 8:20 p.m., according to a news release from Beaumont Police.

While officers were at the home talking to a person involved in the disturbance, a man approached them from behind a home "armed with a chainsaw" and advanced toward them, police say.

The officers fired their weapons at the Arteaga who was pronounced dead at the scene by Beaumont EMS paramedics.

Beaumont police have identified the man killed as 42-year-old Manuel Arteaga.
