Three Beaumont shootings on Friday night are 'not random,' police said

The three shootings may have been in different parts of town, but police do not believe that the suspects' targets were pure chance.

BEAUMONT — Three shootings within four hours on Friday night are currently under investigation.

But while the shootings were scattered all over the city, Beaumont Police spokesperson Haley Morrow said in a news release that "detectives do not believe any of these incidents were random."

The first shooting was reported at 5:24 p.m. on August 24 at Cleveland Avenue and Leight Street in the North End, near Mae Jones Clark Elementary School.

Officers found a victim who they said was deaf and mute suffering from gunshot wounds. Beaumont EMS transported the victim to a local hospital where his injuries were determined to be non life-threatening.

The suspect vehicle in this shooting is a newer model, silver Chrysler 300 with a shattered back windshield.

Around 9 p.m. the same day, another shooting was reported in near Winston Drive in the south end of the city. Police arrived in the 4200 block of Winston Drive, where they were approached by a shooting victim who told police he was shot in the 3300 block of Bender Street.

The shooter arrived at a residence on Bender Street looking for someone who owed him money, police said they learned during the investigation. The suspect then fired a handgun at the victim, a 58 year old man, while inside the house.

The man was hit twice, but after Beaumont EMS transported him to a hospital, his injuries were also determined to be non life-threatening.

Just 30 minutes later, police received a call about a third shooting.

The victim told police he was shot at near Pecan Street and Porter Street after dropping an employee off at a game room on Porter Street.

A gold Honda Civic drove head on towards the victim's vehicle as he was leaving the game room, police said. When the victim stopped his car, a man exited the passenger side of the Honda and shot at the victim several times, but he drove away from the scene uninjured.

All three incidents are being investigated, police said, although some victims did not want to cooperate with the investigation.

Beaumont Police detectives are asking anyone with information about these crimes to call Beaumont Police at 409-832-1234 or Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS (8477).
