Battle of the Breweries | Businesses prepare for Mid-County Madness

As Mid-County prepares for the biggest showdown in all of Texas high school, local breweries are getting ready for their big game in their own way.

PORT NECHES, Texas — With less than 24-hours away until the kickoff for Mid-County Madness, businesses in Port Neches and Nederland are showing off their pride for their team.

As Mid-County prepares for the biggest showdown in all of Texas high school football, local breweries are getting ready for their big game in their own way.

Fans flocked to both Nederland and Port Neches-Groves stadiums to get a taste of what the big game will bring.

So whether you bleed purple and white or black and gold, Port Neches Brewing Company and Nederland's Buckstin Brewing Company are ready for the influx of fans, anticipating the biggest Southeast Texas showdown of the season.

If last year was any indication, local Southeast Texas breweries are ready to host fans for the sold-out showdown Mid-County Madness.

"We get a flux of people coming in before and after to spend some time with each other and spend some time drinking some good beer!" said Port Neches Brewing Company Bartender Cade Bartee.

Bartee is pouring purple, as their method to the madness.

"It's based on our orange creamsicle beer. The way that we turned it purple was with purple sweet potatoes. We'll also have a domestic beer on tap and that one will be done with food coloring instead," said Bartee.

On the other side of the tracks, Nederland's Buckstin Brewing has their own bulldog brew, rightfully named the Black and Gold.

"It's gonna be half of our vanilla cream ale, our 'Lady Bartender' and half of our peanut butter stout, the 'Showcase Shutdown'," said Buckstin Brewing manager Griffin Stein.

Like their purple and white counterparts, Buckstin is planning for a packed house

"We will have the game on for anyone who wants to come over and watch it," said Stein.

On Thursday, it was already game on for loyal Mid-County Madness fans like Nederland Sophomore Emma Barnes. As the junior varsity teams from both schools gave it their all on the gridiron at Bulldog Stadium.

"I just like the rivalry, it's very intense," said Barnes.

Barnes assures Nederland and PN-G fans the outcome of the JV game, which saw the Bulldogs lose to the Indians, is not a foreshadow of what will happen during the big game.

"Our boys are gonna come out and show out! I believe they've been working really hard and have what it takes to take down the Indians!" she said.

The undefeated PN-G Indians and the 6-1 Nederland Bulldogs kick off Friday at 7 p.m. at The Reservation.
