BPD: burglaries are down across city

Beaumont Police spokesperson tells 12news that roughly 240 car burglaries, home and businesses break-ins have happened in the last three months.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Here  in recent weeks there have been several burglaries throughout the city of Beaumont. Halloween night at least 21 cars were broken into.

Beaumont police sergeant Cody Guedry has spent the past several hours looking into burglary statistics for the past two years. He says they have had 240 burglaries, which include residential as well.

"it's really vital that neighbors watch out for other neighbors," Guedry said. "It may sound like a lot but you're talking about a pretty big city in a three month period."

Guedry shared these numbers with us, by this time last year Beaumont PD investigated 735 burglaries. Year to date -- the city has had about 700.
While the stats show a decrease, there's plenty of work to be done.

Following the string of break-ins Halloween night, police arrested Mark Roberts in connection to one of the break-ins.

Sergeant Guedry says there are three things you should consider doing -- to protect your property.

"We want people to be more vigilant and to understand that this is when people will be desperate. lock the windows and doors, and lighting as well as security cameras," Guedry said.

There's still a numbers of unsolved burglaries throughout the city, if you know anything you're advice to call police or Southeast Texas crime stoppers.
