'We really rely heavily on our citizens' | Beaumont Police still searching for missing woman with diminished mental capacity

Police say that Linda Rogers was last seen wearing blue jeans and a tan shirt when she went missing on the 4400 block of Concord Road Sunday evening.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Yesterday, the Beaumont Police Department issued a critical missing alert for 66-year-old Linda Rogers.

BPD says that they are concerned because she has diminished mental capacity and may be confused.

"In this particular case she was on foot so that where we really rely heavily on our citizens, to keep their eyes open," said officer Haley Morrow.

Police say that Rogers was last seen wearing blue jeans and a tan shirt when she went missing on the 4400 block of Concord Road Sunday evening.

An area the department tells 12News, they've been fervently patrolling in their search for Rodgers.

"Following up on evidence they find. So video surveillance of the last known area using," said Morrow.

Police say that while it is not uncommon for elderly people to go missing, it can be especially worrisome for family members.

"I have a loved one that is facing diminished mental capacity in the form of the onset of dementia and it is very stressful," said Janci Kimball, CEO of Nutrition and Services for Seniors.

Kimball's company focuses on delivering meals on wheels to seniors and also provides other services.

"If we're delivering to someone every single day and say, maybe they don't answer the door, we can call the emergency contact," said Kimball.

There are steps you can take to keep tabs on loved ones who suffer from varying forms of diminished mental capacities.

"I think that cameras are a very important thing, also there are locking mechanisms that you can put on doors that will alert you when the doors opened," said Kimball.

Police say that everyday citizens can also help by simply being aware of their surroundings.

"They're at the store and confused. You know that information on their medical bracelet or a necklace, or having that information in their cell phone can be really helpful for someone who may come across them," said Morrow.

BPD also hopes that new tech can help them locate missing elderly people faster.

More than 1500 cameras have been registered with BPD's new FUSUS Real Time Crime Center.

"Check the last 24 hours of their cameras to see if they see the person that we're looking for. And that's kind of how we can put pieces together a timeline together," said Morrow.

Police say Rogers is classified as a critical missing adult because her case does not meet all of the qualifications of a Silver Alert. This includes authorities using all available resources and that they may believe her disappearance was suspicious.

If you see her, please call 911.
