Beaumont man sentenced to 35 years for 2019 shooting death of another man

Mark Wayne Brantley, 31, of Beaumont was sentenced for the 2019 death of Joseph Andrew Frank, 45.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A 31-year-old Beaumont man has been sentenced for the 2019 shooting death of another man.

Mark Wayne Brantley, 31, of Beaumont was indicted for murder in 2019 in connection to the death of Joseph Andrew Frank, 45.

On July 2, 2019, Beaumont police responded to the 2400 block of Primose St. When they got there, officers found the body of Frank in the driveway of the home.

During the investigation, officers learned Frank's girlfriend had called his family members to tell them Frank had been shot, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The following day, the girlfriend was interviewed and told investigators Frank had been shot by Brantley. She told investigators Brantley got a gun from a house on Detroit St. and told her he was going to shoot Frank.

After driving to her mother's address, where they knew Frank would be, Brantley forced the girlfriend to get out of the vehicle a block away from her mother's house on Primrose St., according to the affidavit.

A couple of minutes later, the girlfriend said she heard gunshots. She then went to her mom's house and saw Frank laying in the driveway next door.

She said later got a phone call from Brantley, where he confessed to shooting Frank.

Brantley was set to go to trial this week for the murder of Frank, but changed his plea to guilty.

He was sentenced to 35 years in prison by Judge John Stevens as part of a plea deal.
