NEWTON COUNTY, Texas — The suspect in a deadly shooting stemming from a long-running family feud in Newton County turned himself in Friday.
Decorrian Cordell Holmes was charged with murder in the shooting that took the life of his cousin Payton Deandre Holmes, Newton County Sheriff Billy Rowles said in a news release.
Holmes surrendered to authorities in Jefferson County around 3 p.m. May 8, Newton County Deputy Jeoffery Blueitt said. He was booked into the Newton County Jail Saturday, May 9. His bond was set at $500,000 during his arraignment and he is still in the jail as of 2 p.m. May, 10.
The shooting happened at 9:17 a.m. May 1 on County Road 1020 in the Jamestown community, Rowles said. Judge Mike Greer issued a warrant for murder May 8 for the suspect involved in a deadly shooting, Rowles said in a May 8 news release.
The shooter and the person who died were cousins and had a family feud, Rowles said in an initial news release.
