A probable cause affidavit in the fatal shooting paints a picture of a fight and a struggle.

SILSBEE, Texas — A fight throughout a Silsbee home led to a struggle over a gun prior to the fatal shooting of a 33-year-old Woodville over the weekend.

Amy Sue Hammond, 30, of Silsbee, has been charged in the fatal shooting of Granville Owen Dennis Jr., 33, of Woodville.

Hardin County deputies were sent to a home in the 2800 block of Holly Hill Dr. on Friday night, October 18, 02024, at about 9:15 p.m. after a shooting was reported.

When they got there, they found Hammond at the home along with the body of Dennis.

Hammond told deputies that Dennis had gotten “physically aggressive” with her, according to the affidavit.

Hamond also told deputies she then pointed a shotgun at Dennis while he sat on the bedroom floor and told him she didn’t want to “have to kill him,” the affidavit said.

The two began fighting and pushing and shoving each other throughout the house, according to the affidavit.

At some point Dennis slipped and fell to the floor in the living room.

Hammond told deputies that she spotted a black .40 pistol on the floor near Dennis, grabbed it and fired it but missed him according to the affidavit.

Dennis then got a hold of the pistol and fired it, nearly shooting himself in the leg, the affidavit said.

She told deputies that she was able to get control of the handgun again as Dennis was seated on the kitchen floor.

Hamond then fired once more striking him in the eye, according to the affidavit.

When deputies arrived, they found his body on the kitchen floor.

Hammond was later arrested sometime after midnight Saturday and charged in connection with Dennis’ death according to Sheriff Mark Davis.

She has been arraigned by Hardin County Justice of the Peace Melissa Minton, and is currently being held in the county jail under a $750K bond for Murder.
