CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas — A man accused of taking police on a highspeed chase that ended in a shootout took the stand for his trial Wednesday morning. There he made a startling claim that he had no control over his actions that day.

Aduel Villafuerte-Mora is being charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer, tampering with evidence, drug possession, and evading arrest in a motor vehicle after a 2022 chase that ended at the Chambers-Jefferson County line where multiple gunshots were exchanged.

During the trial yesterday, a jury in the 252nd District Court watched dashcam video of the chase in which shots were fired at deputies.

Wednesday detectives testified about drugs, multiple cell phones, and other evidence found at the end of the chase that led to Villafuerte-Mora's drug charges according to court documents.

A forensic scientist also testified about tests done on a gun prosecutors say was used by the defendant.

Defense attorney Tom Burbank eventually called Villafuerte-Mora to the stand to testify where he astoundingly claimed that he was under some kind of mind control that day according to court documents.

“I don’t have control over my body, with this technology you don’t know who’s controlling me. It’s like the CIA, someone’s trying to set me up,” said Villafuerte-Mora on the stand.

Villafuerte-Mora says that the officers were pursuing him because they wanted to kill him.

In cross examination prosecutor Coleman asked Mora if he was putting on some kind of show with his behavior and these bizarre claims.

“I have a copy of records that say they sent me to the hospital, I’m not making this up,” Villafuerte-Mora responded.

Both sides have rested and the jury is now deliberating.

Villafuerta-Mora has chosen to be punished by jury if found guilty.
