CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas — Jury selection is taking place for the trial of a man who is accused of taking Chambers County deputies on a high-speed chase that led to a shootout in 2022.
The chase ended at the Chambers-Jefferson County line after multiple gunshots were exchanged between the suspect and sheriff’s deputies, according to a news release from the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office.
Aduel Villafuerte-Mora is being charged with:
- Evading arrest with motor vehicle, a 3rd-degree felony, with a possible 2-10 years sentence.
- Tamper/fabricate evidence with intent to impair, a 3rd-degree felony, with a possible 2-10 years sentence.
- Possession of a controlled substance, a 3rd-degree felony, with a possible 2-10 years sentence.
- Assault on a peace officer, 1st degree, with a possible 5-99 or life sentence
Villafuerta-Mora has chosen to be punished by jury if found guilty.
