Intoxicated man hits Port Arthur Police officer, patrol car before arrest

The man was driving a pickup truck at a high speed near the scene of an investigation.

BEAUMONT, Texas — An intoxicated man struck a Port Arthur Police officer after he lost control of his vehicle.

The Port Arthur Police Department was investigating a noise complaint in the 5100 block of 7th Street around 10:41 p.m. Friday.

A man in a pickup truck was driving at a high speed near the scene of the investigation. 

The driver crashed into a patrol car and lost control of his vehicle before hitting one of the police officers on the scene.

The Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the crash. Authorities learned that the man was intoxicated. He has been arrested for intoxication assault.

The Port Arthur police officer was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital and was later released.

On 5/15/20 at approximately 10:41 PM Officers of the Port Arthur Police Dept. were investigating a report of a loud noise disturbance in the 5100 block of 7th St.

 During the investigation, a male subject driving a pick-up truck travelling at a high rate of speed, failed to use caution while proceeding through the area where the officers were located. 

The male subject struck a patrol vehicle, lost control and struck one of the officers on scene.

The Texas Dept. of Public Safety was summoned to the scene to investigate the crash. The male operator was found to be intoxicated, and was subsequently arrested for Intoxication Assault. 

The officer was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was later released.
