Evidence at murder scene of Silsbee teen led to 19-year-old Vidor man who shot self to death

The Jasper County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a Silsbee teen.

An East Texas sheriff says a 14-year-old girl was shot and killed in her home and the suspected gunman was later found dead along a rural road.

Jasper County Sheriff Mitch Newman told the Beaumont Enterprise that Tristan Dilley was killed Sunday at the home in Buna northeast of Beaumont.

Newman says the girl was found in a second-floor room with a gunshot wound to the head.

Evidence found at the home led authorities to search for a 19-year-old man who Newman says had a relationship with Dilley.

The 19-year-old Vidor man who authorities were looking at as a "person of interest" in Dilley's death fatally shot himself in the head as he was approached by Jasper County deputies Monday afternoon.

He shot himself in front of the deputies on the banks of a canal off of FM 1135 according to Jasper County Sheriff Mitchell Newman.

The man, whose identity has not been released yet, was pronounced dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound by Orange County Precinct Two Justice of the Peace Derry Dunn.

Authorities have not provided a motive for the shooting.
