Beaumont police search for second suspect in narcotic-related robbery

The two men forced their way inside the apartment while brandishing handguns, police say.

BEAUMONT, Texas —

Beaumont Police are investigating a narcotics-related robbery involving four people. 

Officers responded to a disturbance at an apartment in the 1600 block of Cornerstone Court around 11:30 p.m. Friday, May 15. 

When officers arrived, they found a man at the apartment named Cameron Scott, a 20-year-old man from Beaumont. While the police spoke with Scott, a woman started yelling and telling the officers that she had been kidnapped.

Scott left the scene on foot and officers chased him. Police eventually caught up with Scott, and he was taken into custody. 

Further investigation revealed Scott and another person had showed up to the apartment, Beaumont Police said in a news release. 

The two men allegedly forced their way inside the apartment while brandishing handguns. The two intruders tied up a woman and her husband were bound while they took items from inside the apartment and placed the couple in a nearby vehicle. 

Police said the woman was able to get to her phone, which allowed her to notify the police through a third party.

The other intruder was able to leave the scene before police arrived. He was wearing a blue medical mask and a teal hoodie, police said. 

The stolen property and handguns were found by police.

One handgun was found in the vehicle of the suspect who fled the scene. Another handgun was in the area where Scott was arrested.

Further investigation reveals the incident is narcotics-related, Beaumont Police said. 

Scott was taken to the Jefferson County Jail for aggravated robbery and evading arrest.

Beaumont Police are asking for assistance in finding the second suspect.

Beaumont Police Department full news release..

Friday, May 15, 2020 at 11:31pm, officers responded to an apartment in the 1600 block of  Cornerstone Ct. in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with a male at the apartment, later identified as Cameron Scott, a 20 year old Beaumont man. While speaking with Scott, a female yelled and told officers that Scott had kidnapped her. Scott then fled on foot and was pursued by officers. After a lengthy foot pursuit Scott was taken into custody. Further investigation revealed Scott and second suspect, a black male with short hair, slim athletic build, wearing a blue medical mask and a teal hoodie, showed up to the apartment and forced their way inside the apartment brandishing handguns. The female and her husband were bound while the actors loaded property into a nearby vehicle. The female was able to access her phone and notify the police through a third party.

Scott was arrested and transported to Jefferson County Jail. The second actor had fled prior to police contact. The stolen property and two handguns were located. One handgun was located  in the actor vehicle and one handgun was in the area where Scott was taken into custody.

Preliminary investigation revealed the incident was narcotics related.
