Beaumont Police arrest man accused of fracturing woman's skull

A Beaumont Police officer arrested Marcus Austin, 39, of Beaumont Wednesday afternoon in Port Arthur. Police had been searching for Austin since August 26.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A 39-year-old Beaumont man has been arrested in connection with an assault that left a woman's skull fractured.

A Beaumont Police officer arrested Marcus Austin, 39, of Beaumont Wednesday afternoon in Port Arthur. Police had been searching for Austin since August 26.

The officer was assigned to the U.S. Marshall's Fugitive Task Force and with the assistance of Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Port Arthur Police Department was able to apprehend Austin.

Austin was transported to the Beaumont Police Department to be interviewed by investigators, and then transported to Jefferson County Correctional Facility.

Austin was wanted on a charge of "aggravated assault with a weapon causing serious bodily injury", according to police.

 On August 26, 2024 Officers went to a home in the 2800 block of Averill at about 5:40 p.m. after getting a call about an assault that may have been taking place there.

As officers arrived they were flagged down by the victim's young daughter according to police.

Police say the girl led officers to her 33-year-old mother who had been struck in the head. It was later determined that her skull had been fractured and she was immediately taken to the hospital as a trauma alert patient.

Austin has Beaumont City Warrants and a Warrant for a parole violation in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for possession of weapon by felon.

Judge Collins signed the warrant and has ordered Austin to wear a GPS ankle monitor.

He is currently in the Jefferson County Detention Center awaiting arraignment and his bond will be set in the morning, according to Judge Collins.
