Beaumont man struck, killed late Thursday night by hit-and-run driver

Police say he was struck by an unknown driver who fled the area.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police are investigating the death of a 52-year-old Beaumont man who was struck by a hit-and-run driver late Thursday night along College St. just east of Dowlen Rd.

Officers were sent to the 6700 block of College St at about 10:19 p.m. according to a news release from the Beaumont Police Department.

When they got there they found Derek Dewayne Banks, 52, of Beaumont, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Preliminary investigation showed that Banks was struck by an unknown driver who fled the area after striking him the release said.

Police are continuing to investigate Banks' death.
