BEAUMONT, Texas — 12News is excited to announce that Mark Armstrong will join the Daybreak team as co-anchor, beginning Monday, November 25, 2024. A seasoned journalist and communications professional, Armstrong brings a wealth of experience in both broadcast news and public service to the Southeast Texas community.
His journey to Southeast Texas is as inspiring as it is diverse. From humble beginnings as a machinist apprentice at Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi, he cultivated a strong work ethic that carried him through his academic and professional endeavors. After earning a history degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, Armstrong launched his broadcast career at WXXV in Biloxi/Gulfport, Mississippi, before making a name for himself at WBRZ in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There, he covered major events such as the election of former Governor John Bel Edwards, the Alton Sterling protests, and the Great Flood of 2016.
Most recently, Armstrong served as Chief Communications Officer for Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish, where he led strategic communications on public safety and infrastructure projects. His decision to return to the newsroom reflects his enduring passion for storytelling and connecting with the communities he serves.
“I’m thrilled to join the Daybreak team and become part of the Southeast Texas community,” said Armstrong. “Morning news is a chance to set the tone for the day, and I look forward to bringing viewers stories that matter most to them. This region’s rich culture and resilience inspire me, and I can’t wait to get to work.”
News Director Ginny Sweeney expressed her enthusiasm about Armstrong’s arrival: “Mark’s experience and dedication to delivering meaningful stories make him a fantastic addition to the Daybreak team. His background in both journalism and public service adds a unique depth to our coverage. Southeast Texans will quickly see his commitment to this community.”
Armstrong joins Daybreak as 12News continues its mission of “Putting Southeast Texas First.” Tune in starting November 25, 2024 to see Armstrong and the Daybreak team every weekday morning from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. simulcast on ABC12 and NBC12.
