BEAUMONT, Texas — Mark Armstrong is a Daybreak and Midday anchor at 12News in Beaumont, Tx, specializing in news and features.
He joined the 12News team in November 2024, returning to his passion for journalism after a decade in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Armstrong is a seasoned journalist and communications professional with a career spanning public service and broadcast news.
Armstrong’s career began as a machinist apprentice at Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi, where he developed a strong work ethic before pursuing higher education at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. He graduated with a degree in history, setting the stage for a career focused on storytelling and understanding complex issues.
His broadcast career includes reporting for WXXV in Biloxi/Gulfport, Mississippi, before moving to Baton Rouge to work at WBRZ. There, he covered pivotal events, including the election of former Governor John Bel Edwards, the civil unrest following the Alton Sterling shooting and the Great Flood of 2016. His journalistic integrity and ability to connect with viewers earned him a reputation as a trusted voice in Louisiana.
In his public service role as Chief Communications Officer for Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish, Armstrong led strategic messaging on public safety, flood mitigation and infrastructure development, further honing his leadership and storytelling skills.
Now back in the newsroom, Armstrong balances his professional life with hobbies that include reading, hiking and traveling. His dedication to his craft and his community defines his approach, whether reporting the day’s news or learning more about the world.
