BEAUMONT, Texas — The 12News meteorologists have declared a Weather Impact Alert for Thursday in Southeast Texas.

The alert has been issued for all of Southeast Texas due to the potential for locally heavy rainfall and isolated areas experiencing street ponding.

Rain coverages Thursday will be around 60%-70% throughout with highs into the lower to middle 90's.

No severe weather is anticipated but a wet commute is expected primarily for the Lakes Area this morning.

Scattered showers and storms may flare back up into the afternoon hours as a stationary front sags further southward throughout today.

More scattered to numerous showers and storms are forecast Thursday. The weekend looks slightly drier though rain coverages are still in the forecast.

Next week's rain chances are incredibly conservative and are subject to increase once we get higher confidence in rain coverages in the next day or so.

Previously we had called for alert days on Friday, Saturday Monday and Tuesday but, as we are used to in Southeast Texas, our forecast often fluctuates.

Your outdoor activities and travel could be affected by the rain so you may want to keep an umbrella ready and be prepared for some possible street flooding.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.

What is a Weather Impact Alert?

The 12News Weather Impact Team is working to keep you safe and informed ahead of any weather threat coming our way.

It’s always our goal to make sure you have the most accurate and up-to-date information about the weather and its impact on you. Weather Impact Alerts will be just that - alerts as far in advance as possible, so that you can be armed with accurate information to keep yourself and your family safe.

A "Weather Impact Alert" is simply a day, or even just a portion of a day, when we're expecting weather that you may need to prepare for or change your plans for. This could be as simple as us letting you know you'll need an umbrella for a few hours in the afternoon.

When will we see Weather Impact Alerts?

You might see our 12News Weather Impact Team call for a weather impact alert for an entire day. That means significant weather is coming and you need to take action. Or you might see us call for a weather impact alert for a few hours during a particular day, meaning you might need to adjust some plans during that time frame.

Either way, we will arm you with details on when the threat is coming, what the impact will be to you and what you need to do.

Those details are...

  • WHEN:  What day or time will this happen?
  • IMPACT: How will it impact you?
  • NEED: What do you need to do?

No matter the alert, you will have a heads up to any weather that might impact you and your family.
