Salvation Army Beaumont prepares to lend a hand to those in need ahead of Beryl

The salvation army says storms like this bring Texans together.

BEAUMONT, Texas — The Salvation Army Beaumont has mobile kitchen, laundry, and feeding units on standby, ready to feed Texans impacted by Hurricane Beryl.

Ahead of Beryl arrival, Beaumont Salvation Army began to set up their mobile kitchen unit.

"We'll cook on the canteen. It's essentially kind of a mobile kitchen, and so it'll have a flat top, it'll have a stove, it'll have a refrigerator," said Commanding Officer Lt. James Guzman.

The non-profit is prepared to head out after the storm hits.

"If needed then we'll get deployed to where it gets hit the hardest," said Guzman.

That is where they will cook many hot meals for people impacted by Beryl.

"Right at the very beginning we'll be the one cooking, and feeding, and making sure that people are being fed," said Guzman.

The non-profit is also utilizing their mobile feeding unit which is prepared for 1500 people.

"Oftentimes they'll go, prepare and cook the food, and we'll receive the food from them. Then we'll actually go out into the community because we have the mobilization like that. That we can go out and feed, so it's just really a huge collaboration," Guzman said.

There is also a mobile laundry unit on standby, so people who are displaced can clean their clothes.

If power outages happen in Beaumont, the Salvation Army will open their doors to provide shelter.

"We could actually provide shelter, you know emergency shelter, because we would still have power, because of our generator," said Guzman.

The salvation army says storms like this bring Texans together.

"It's a great way to let the community know that we're here for them, that we care about them, and it's also a great way to kind of rally the community together," Guzman said.

The Salvation Army Beaumont is also sending a backup generator. If power is lost, they can still serve hot meals.
