VIDEO: Skycam near Texas-New Mexico border shows snowfall

Texas towns like Vega, Dalhart and Stratford experienced a wintry mix, while areas right along the border on U.S. Highway 87 got some snow, according to NWS.

TEXAS, USA — Editor's note: The video posted is a skycam of Des Moines, New Mexico, from ABC affiliate KVII. The National Weather Service graphic below shows where in North Texas that snow has fallen.

If we told you there was snow in Texas in early November, would you believe it? 

Well, it's true. 

The very northwestern portion of the Panhandle experienced winter weather pm Thursday, according to National Weather Service Amarillo. Most of the noticeable snowfall happened on the New Mexico side of the border, like in Des Moines.

But according to the NWS, Texas towns like Vega, Dalhart and Stratford experienced a wintry mix, while areas right along the border on U.S. Highway 87 like Texline got some snow.

In a post on X, NWS Amarillo said the cold air has resulted in more snow than they anticipated. North of Kenton, OK the NWS Amarillo recorded 16 inches of snow as of 3:35 p.m. However, warm air is expected to move through Thursday afternoon and change most of the snow to rain.
