LIST: Southeast Texas school districts closing, delaying classes following winter storm

Frozen conditions, low temperatures and power outages combine to create serious situation for Southeast Texas school districts.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Many Southeast Texas school districts will remain closed for in-person instruction through Wednesday while they work to recover from record-breaking cold, snow and ice and subsequent power outages.

Many districts were already closed Monday for Presidents Day, while others may be on winter break for the entire week.

Here's any delays or closures we know about now by county. We will update this list as we receive CONFIRMED closure information from credible sources.

Jefferson County

  • Beaumont Classical Academy will remain virtual through Friday, Feb. 19.
  • Beaumont ISD extended virtual learning through March 1, due to damage to 24 campuses and facilities due to the freezing weather conditions. 
  • Bob Hope School will have remote learning Tuesday, Feb. 23 and Wednesday, Feb. 24 due to the continued water issues in Port Arthur. 
  • Ehrhart School will continue remote instruction through Friday, Feb. 19.
  • Harmony Public Schools will be closed on Monday, Feb. 22 and Tuesday, Feb. 23 in both Beaumont and Houston. Classes will resume with virtual learning only Wednesday, Feb. 24 through Friday, Feb. 26.
  • Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) classes are set to resume Monday, Feb. 22. 
  • Lamar University will remain closed through Friday, Feb. 19. All events on campus for Friday are cancelled.
  • Lamar State College Port Arthur will remain closed Friday, Feb. 19.
  • Legacy Christian Academy will remain closed Friday, Feb. 19.
  • Nederland ISD classes will be held virtually Thursday, Feb. 18 and Friday, Feb. 19.
  • Port Arthur ISD staff will return in person on Monday, Feb. 22. All students will continue with remote instruction through Monday. "Students who are currently in-person for the third nine-week period will return to campus on Tuesday, February 23 and all virtual learning students for the third nine-week period will continue with remote instruction," the district said.

    Port Acres Elementary and Thomas Jefferson Middle Schools will work remotely on Tuesday, Feb. 23 and return to in-person classes on Wednesday, Feb. 24. 
  • Port Neches-Groves ISD classes are set to resume Monday, Feb. 22.  
  • Sabine Pass ISD Classes will be held remotely through Friday, Feb. 19.
  • Tekoa Academy will return to both face-to-face and virtual classes Monday, Feb. 22.

Orange County

  • Bridge City ISD will remain closed Friday, Feb. 19.
  • Lamar State College Orange will remain closed Friday, Feb. 19.
  • Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD will remain closed through Friday, Feb. 19 with classes resuming on Monday, Feb. 22. 
  • Orangefield ISD is on winter break Feb. 15 to 19.
  • Vidor ISD will remain virtual through Friday, Feb. 19. Monday is a student holiday.
  • West Orange-Cove CISD will remain closed through Friday, Feb. 19.

Newton County

  • Newton ISD will resume classes on Monday, Feb. 22.

Hardin County

  • Hardin-Jefferson ISD will be on winter break Feb. 15 to 19.
  • West Hardin CCISD will be on winter break Feb.15 to 19.
  • Silsbee ISD will continue remote learning Friday, Feb. 19. 

Chambers County

  • Anahuac ISD will remain closed Friday, Feb. 19.
  • East Chambers ISD will remain closed Friday, Feb. 19.

Liberty County

  • Cleveland ISD will have no classes through Friday, Feb. 19
