PINEHURST, Texas — A Pinehurst woman is thankful to local firefighters after she was rescued from Imelda floodwaters on Friday. And she's just one of many thanking emergency responders who were in the right place at the right time.
Authorities say the woman suffered an injury during the storm and was unable to get herself to safety. Fortunately, members of the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department were able to help her and a child who was with her.
12NewsNow has received a video of the woman arriving on the back of a truck thanks to her rescuers who then help her out of the back of the truck. She even gave them a high-five as she once again put her feet down on dry land.
Hers is just one of many rescues going on across southeast Texas with help from police, firefighters, volunteers, and even the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Department of Defense provided video of one such rescue involving a flood victim being hoisted from into the air near Beaumont and into a hovering Coast Guard helicopter. We're told Air Station New Orleans provided the video of the rescue, which showed the victim being carefully brought skyward with little more than a small suitcase of belongings.
As of Thursday, Air Station New Orleans and Air Station Houston had collectively rescued nine people and gotten them to medical services waiting to help them.
On top of that, Coast Guard shallow-water response teams from Marine Safety Unit Baton Rouge had rescued 21 people and five pets from Orange County.
