Southeast Texas homeowners experience busted pipes and no running water

Homeowners woke up to no running water due to busted pipes.

BEAUMONT, Texas — The morning after the arctic blast blew into Southeast Texas, the Beaumont Water Department was inundated with over 300 calls from residents.

Homeowners woke up to no running water, due to busted pipes.

One Beaumont resident Arthur Bobenoaux tells 12News that he found two busted pipes under his house, and his neighbors house. Despite fixing the pipes, they still did not have running water.

"We tried to turn the water back on from the meter, but it was off, so I spoke with the lady at 311 and she said it was probably because of an outage due to the freeze," said Bobenoaux.

A crew leader for the Beaumont Water and Utilities Department, David Morris was one of the people answering homeowner’s calls.

"The busted pipes inside of their home is due to the freeze and from not allowing your water to flow at a constant stream throughout your faucets overnight,” said Morris.

Morris tells 12News that this is the reason the city is cutting off the meter.

Director of Beaumont Water and Sewer operations, Mike Harris says he and his team answered over 3,000, 311 calls during the 2021 February freeze. Now they were more prepared to answer residents' concerns.

Devers resident, August Mosley, says his pipes are not leaking, but his electricity was out almost 24 hours.

"Last night, the lights went off and we got a notification from Entergy that they would have it back up and going by 10 pm, but as it approached 10 pm, we got another notification that it would be midnight," said Mosley.

As of Friday night, Entergy has restored power in Devers.
