New Year's Eve bringing marginal risk of severe weather, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes possible

No snow is forecast for our area, but heavy rain and possible strong winds may affect Southeast Texas later this week

BEAUMONT, Texas — Southeast Texas is facing a slight risk of severe weather, including damaging winds and a chance of isolated tornadoes, on New Year's Eve thanks to a disturbance that will move in later this week. 

The 12News StormTrackers are monitoring a potent upper-level disturbance that is expected to move into Texas on Thursday. 

The disturbance is expected to move into Mexico Tuesday and Wednesday. 

There's a marginal risk, or 5-10 percent chance, of flash flooding in the area on Thursday. 

1 to 3 inches is forecast with isolated amounts of 4 to 5 inches possible. 

Heavy rainfall could move in as soon as Wednesday, and especially Thursday. It could mean one to three inches, with isolated amounts of four or five inches possible.

Timing could still change. Some of the expected storms could become severe with damaging winds and perhaps an isolated tornado.
