Tropical Storm Nestor forms in Gulf of Mexico

Tropical storm warnings have been issued for the Gulf Coast

BEAUMONT, Texas — Tropical Storm Nestor has officially formed in the Gulf of Mexico. 

Tropical storm warnings have been issued for the Gulf Coast as Nestor gains speed and strength as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico.

The National Hurricane Center says high winds and dangerous storm surge are likely along parts of the northern Gulf Coast. Conditions are expected to deteriorate Friday into early Saturday. 

Right now, Nestor is located 195 miles from the mouth of the Mississippi River. Sustained winds are at 60 mph and it is moving NE at 22 mph.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from the Mississippi/Alabama
border to Yankeetown, Florida.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from Grand Isle, Louisiana to
the Mouth of the Pearl River.

A Storm Surge Watch is in effect from Indian Pass, Florida, to
Clearwater Beach, Florida.

A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours. 

The NHC is forecasting 2-4 inches, with isolated maximum amounts of 6 inches possible in some areas. 

Nestor is now the 14th named storm of the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane season. Hurricane season continues until November 30.
