HOUSTON — It's been two days since Beryl hit the Houston area as a Category 1 hurricane. At least seven people in Harris and Montgomery counties lost their lives. Other storm victims had extensive damage to their homes and millions of customers lost power.

CenterPoint provides restoration update
CenterPoint said it restored power to 1 million customers by the end of Wednesday.
The company also said it plans to restore power to an additional 400,000 customers by the end of Friday.
CenterPoint also announced they would provide more specific estimated restoration times for customers starting Thursday.
Entergy says all power will be back by Sunday
Entergy Texas said about 100,500 customers had been restored since the storm first hit. Again, the company said some customers currently without power might not get it back until Sunday but the goal is to complete work sooner. On Wednesday night, they released estimated restoration dates:
- Bolivar Peninsula (includes Gilchrist, Port Bolivar, and Crystal Beach): No later than 7/12/2024
- Cleveland Network (includes Patton Village, Plum Grove, Splendora, and surrounding areas): No later than 7/14/2024
- Conroe Network (includes Montgomery, Panorama Village, Willis, and surrounding areas): No later than 7/14/2024
- New Caney Network (includes Huffman, Porter, Roman Forest, Woodbranch, Kingwood, and surrounding areas): No later than 7/14/2024
- The Woodlands Network (includes Oak Ridge North, Shenandoah, Woodloch, and surrounding areas): No later than 7/14/2024
CenterPoint hopes to restore power to 1 million customers by Wednesday night
Hurricane Beryl knocked out power to more than 2 million customers, most of them with CenterPoint, in the Greater Houston area.
The power companies and city leaders say this will be a multi-day outage for most customers because the damage is extensive and widespread.
In an update Monday night, CenterPoint said it hopes to restore power to 1 million customers by the end of the day Wednesday, but customers in the hardest-hit areas "could experience extended outages and should plan accordingly." At 11:17 a.m. Tuesday, more than 1.3 million CenterPoint customers were still without power.
Crews are assessing the damage and will start repairs as soon as possible. However, thousands of out-of-town crews weren't staged in Houston in advance of Hurricane Beryl as in past hurricanes.
At least 10 transmission lines were down, according to Acting Gov. Dan Patrick.
CenterPoint update on power outages
At 11:17 p.m. more than 1.3 million CenterPoint customers were still without power. There were 2.26 million at the storm's peak.
Traffic lights
TxDOT tells KHOU 11 that 600 of its state-maintained traffic signal intersections are still not working.
More than a quarter of the City of Houston's traffic signals aren't working and there is no timetable for repairs.
Boil water notices
Several Houston-area communities have been advised to boil their water following Hurricane Beryl. Harris County Public Health released a Hurricane Beryl boil water notice map to help customers know if one is in effect in their neighborhood.
Discovery Green programs canceled
The Discovery Green staff is working hard to clean up the park after Hurricane Beryl. Like much of the city, there are downed trees, branches and debris throughout the park.
Programming is canceled through Monday, July 15. All fitness classes and Park After Dark are canceled.
The Gateway Fountains are not operating and the bathrooms are closed. Please avoid the area until all repairs can be made.
METRO on modified schedule again Wednesday

Whataburger app shows extent of Houston power outages
With food in the fridge going bad and non-perishables running low, people who are desperate for a hot meal have been driving around looking for fast-food restaurants that are open. If they get lucky and find one, they might have to wait in a long line of cars.

If the location has an orange Whataburger logo that means they have power, are open and are serving customers through the drive-thru only.
The gray Whataburger logos signal the store is closed. Unfortunately, the map has A LOT of gray Ws right now.

Harris County Civil Courts closed Wednesday
Harris County Civil Courts at Law will remain closed on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, due to ongoing impacts from Hurricane Beryl.
All cases set for Wednesday will be rescheduled. This includes civil cases on dockets for each of the four Harris County Civil Courts at Law, as well as the docket run by Harris County Civil Courts at Law Associate Judge Jermaine Thomas.
Jury duty for Harris County is also canceled for Wednesday.
Trouble filling prescriptions?
As Hurricane Beryl power outages continue, a lot of Houston-area pharmacies are closed.
We reached out to CVS and Walgreens about the situation and CVS sent the following statement.
"Approximately 90 CVS Pharmacy locations are currently closed because they don’t have power. We’re reopening locations as soon as power is restored and it’s safe for colleagues, customers, and patients. In the meantime, patients can visit any open CVS Pharmacy for help with their immediate prescription needs."
We are waiting to hear back from Walgreens.
Cooling centers open
As massive power outages drag on, hundreds of thousands of people don't have air conditioning in the middle of a Heat Advisory from the National Weather Service.

In response, the City of Houston, non-profits and others are opening cooling centers to help people get a break from the extreme heat.
There will be several centers open on Tuesday, July 9, for people to take refuge from the heat.

Astros offering $5 tickets
Hurricane Beryl won't stop the Houston Astros from taking the field. They are offering $5 tickets for the home series against the Marlins.

A portion of the proceeds from Tuesday’s LGI Homes Share2Care 50/50 raffle will go to the Houston Food Bank and the American Red Cross for Hurricane Beryl relief efforts.
Astros General Manager Dana Brown and his wife, Casandra and the Astros Foundation will also be at the Ronald McDonald House today cooking food for the families.
Fans are encouraged to leave plenty of time because cleanup efforts continue downtown. A lot of streetlights are also out.

METRO modifies service Tuesday
METRO will resume some service on Tuesday but on a limited basis.
"Our crews are continuously assessing conditions and will work diligently to identify and address any issues caused by the storm. We are committed to providing safe and reliable transportation and will fully resume service when it is possible to safely do so," METRO said in a statement.
Below are the service adjustments customers should expect.

- Park & Ride: All service will remain suspended.
- Local Bus: To allow for extra time to assess road conditions, partial service will not begin until 8 a.m. Routes scheduled to begin at this time include: 02, 08, 20, 26, 28, 38, 39, 40, 44, 50, 52, 54, 56, 63, 65, 73, 80, 82, 85 and 89. Delays and detours are possible, and some routes will not operate until later in the day. Allow for extra time and view the latest route-specific service info here.
- METRORail: Service on all three lines will remain suspended due to power and signal outages. As resources become available, we'll provide bus shuttles and resume rail operations. View the latest service info here.
- HOV/HOT Lanes: All METRO-operated express lanes will remain closed.
- METROLift and curb2curb: Will resume service at 8 a.m. Earlier trips will be rebooked, when possible.
