HOUSTON — President Joe Biden has granted a Texas request for a federal emergency disaster declaration through FEMA to cover Hurricane Beryl recovery costs and help storm victims.
In a post on X, Biden said he had also spoken with Mayor John Whitmire, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and FEMA officials in Texas.
Acting Texas Governor Dan Patrick issued this statement today following a phone call with President Biden:
“I have just spoken with President Biden. I have requested through FEMA to cover all costs for Category A (Debris) and Category B (Emergency Protective Measures). FEMA’s assistance with these costs will expedite the recovery process and help ensure the safety of Texans impacted by Hurricane Beryl. The president granted my request.”
That will help cover Beryl recovery expenses for cities, counties and the state, including the massive cost of clearing debris.
"The emergency declaration that Gov. Patrick worked on with the president will grant 75% reimbursement for debris cleanup, and that is for all 121 impacted counties," Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief W. Nim Kidd said.
Texans who have damage from Beryl are encouraged to file a report with the Texas Division of Emergency Management. Their report goes to FEMA to help determine how much federal funding the state will receive.
Storm victims will also be eligible for loans from the Small Business Administration and other assistance.
