BEAUMONT, Texas — Temps will struggle to get out of the 40s on Tuesday, but the coldest air doesn't arrive until Wednesday morning.
A powerful Arctic cold front is bringing an early dose of winter to Southeast Texas. And it's shattering records across Texas.
Tuesday night will likely bring the coldest weather since January 2018.
What to expect
Tuesday's high is forecast to be 45°. That will be the coldest high ever recorded on November 12 in Beaumont.
The previous record was 52°.
Now that the rain has moved out and the clouds are clearing, the cold Arctic air will be settling in across the region. Wednesday morning's low is forecast to be 29°. That is one degree shy of the record low of 28°.
Areas around the lakes could see temps in the mid-20s Wednesday morning.
Wind chills will make it feel even colder. The current wind chill forecast shows Beaumont will feel more like 25°, Orange will feel like 24° and Burkeville will feel like 23° Wednesday morning.
Freeze warnings in effect for Southeast Texas
A Hard Freeze Warning is in effect for Hardin, Tyler, Jasper, Newton and Orange Counties Tuesday night, which means lows in the middle twenties are likely. The Lakes area can expect freezing temperatures for 10 to 12 hours.
A Freeze Warning is in effect for Jefferson County which means lows in the upper twenties are expected. The Triangle can expect freezing temperatures for 6 to 10 hours.
Another cold front will bring rain on Thursday. This front won't be as potent as the one on Monday, but it will keep our mornings chilly and afternoons mild through the weekend.
