Beaumont business owner raffling off 2 electric scooters to Southeast Texas high school students

Maurice Holmes wants to reward high schoolers for doing well in school.

BEAUMONT, Texas — It's officially summer break, and a Beaumont business owner is hoping to reward Southeast Texas high schoolers for doing well in school by giving them the chance to win an electric scooter.

“One of the hottest things going on right now in the city with the gas prices through the roof,” Maurice Holmes, owner of One Stop Shop Beaumont, said. “We need an alternative means of transportation, so I thought scooters would be good to give away, especially with kids to just reward them for doing good in school.”

The past few years have been hard on everyone due to global issues like the pandemic and supply-chain shortages. Holmes wants to reward students for their hard work.

Holmes is raffling off two electric scooters.  All Southeast Texas high schoolers are eligible to enter the raffle if they've received A’s and B’s the last nine weeks of the grading period.

“So, all you need to do is bring in a copy of your report card stating that you were on the A,B honor roll for the last nine weeks of school,” Holmes said.

Students will need to bring their report card to One Stop Shop Beaumont located at 39 North 11th Street Suite C. The report cards will serve as proof when filling out a raffle ticket to enter the drawing.

Holmes feels the scooters will be good for the winners as gas prices continue to rise.

“It's $375 value,” Holmes said. “It has 18 mile range, and it goes about 20 miles an hour."

There is still time left for students to submit a raffle ticket. Holmes will host a Facebook Live on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at noon to announce the winners.
