BEAUMONT, Texas — Two drivers were sent to a Beaumont hospital early Thursday morning after an SUV headed the wrong way struck an 18-wheeler along the interstate in Orange County.
Around 3:15 a.m. Thursday morning a 26-year-old Bridge City woman driving a 2021 Toyota SUV eastbound along the Interstate 10 access road entered the westbound lanes of the interstate at the Doty Road exit headed the wrong way according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
At the same time a 32-year-old Houston, man driving a 2019 Kenworth 18-wheeler pulling a double-trailer was headed west along the interstate.
The Toyota SUV then struck the left side of the 18-wheeler in the westbound lanes of the interstate the release said.
Both the driver of the SUV and the 18-wheeler were taken by ambulance to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for treatment.
Troopers are continuing to investigate the wreck which left only one lane open in the westbound lanes until about 10:30 a.m.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a crash involving a commercial motor vehicle on Interstate 10 approximately one mile east of Farm-to-Market Road 1132 this morning, Jan. 13, 2022.
The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 3:15 a.m., a 2019 Kenworth truck tractor towing double trailers was traveling west. A 2021 Toyota SUV was traveling east and, for an unknown reason at this time, entered the westbound lane at the Doty exit ramp. The Toyota struck the second trailer on its left side.
The driver of the truck tractor semi-trailer, identified as a 32-year-old Houston, man was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the SUV, identified as a 26-year-old Bridge City woman, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information at this time.
