Flipped 18-wheeler backs up westbound IH-10 west of Beaumont for hours Thursday morning

By noon traffic was backed up about nine miles from the wreck west of Smith Road to the Laurel St bridge in Beaumont.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Traffic backed up for miles into Beaumont after an 18-wheeler flipped along Interstate 10 Thursday morning west of the city.

A 2021 Peterbuilt 18-wheeler was headed west on Interstate 10 west of Beaumont at about 7:45 a.m. Thursday morning when it ran off the road on the right shoulder and flipped onto it's side in a ditch according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The driver, a 27-year-old California man, was cited by troopers for "failing to drive in a single lane" the release said.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reported after the wreck that it could take hours for the clean-up to be finished and the truck to be towed.

Westbound lanes of the interstate were closed and traffic was diverted to Texas Highway 124.

By noon traffic was backed up about nine miles from the wreck west of Smith Road to the Laurel St bridge in Beaumont.

No injuries have been reported from the wreck so far.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated a non-injury crash involving a commercial motor vehicle on Interstate Highway 10 west, near Smith Road, that occurred today, November 10, 2022. 

The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 7:45 a.m., a 2021 Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling west. It is reported that the driver failed to drive in a single lane to the right and traveled into the ditch, at which point it overturned on its right side. 

The driver is identified as 25-year-old California man. The driver was cited for fail to drive in a single lane.
