Wreck on I-10 causes oil spill, traffic to be backed up

The wreck happened around 12:50 p.m. on I-10 near the 845 mile marker

BEAUMONT, Texas — A wreck on I-10 by the 845 mile marker near Major Drive causes traffic to be backed up for hours and oil to be spilled on the road on Monday, August 5.

The preliminary crash investigation done by the Texas Department of Public Safety shows that around 12:50 p.m., a Volkswagen Tiguan was driving, followed by a Honda Accord, a Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer, a Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer, all driving in the outside lane, while a Ram 3500 pickup was going west in the inside lane, according to DPS.

The Volkswagen slowed down because of debris in the road and was hit from behind by the Honda, which caused a chain reaction with the Freightliner and the Peterbilt.

The Freightliner tried to avoid the crash and veered into the inside lane and sideswiped the Ram 3500, according to DPS.

The driver of the Volkswagen and one adult passenger, Ram 3500, Freightliner and Peterbilt were not injured.

The driver of the Honda was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
