JASPER COUNTY, Texas — A well-respected and loved teacher from Tyler County was injured in a single-vehicle Jasper County crash.
It happened Sunday, April 2, 2023 near the Louisiana-Pacific Plant, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety release.
Troopers believe a 1997 Toyota pickup was driving west on U.S. Highway 190 around 5 p.m. when its front left tire assembly detatched, according to the release. This caused the Toyota to go off the road and hit a tree on the passenger side.
The driver was not injured in the crash. Laura Cox, who was a passenger in the Toyota, was taken to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
Cox is a special education teacher who works for the Tyler County Special Education Cooperative. Her classroom is on the campus of Woodville Independent School District, but she teaches students there from all across the county.
"She is a well-respected and loved teacher in our district and our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family at this time," Emily Wilson, director of the Tyler County Special Education Co-op, said.
